Deletopedia - Wikipedia's recycling bin

What's it all about?

To prevent the unnecessary, and unwarranted deletion of material from Wikipedia for capricious, elitist, or otherwise unjustified reasons. Failing that, it will become a repository of all the articles that were unworthy of being kept in Wikipedia, for being not "notable" enough.

For more information on the inspiration for this idea, see the DP:Background

How it works

Every day, the articles that are added to Wikipedia's list of potential deletes is automatically copied to Deletopedia. This preserves the article for posterity, and potentially allows it to be restored to the main Wikipedia site at some later stage.

Pages currently archived can be found at Special:Allpages. In the future I will build a better index of pages.

What we are trying to save

The idea here isn't to save nonsense articles, or spam, or other rubbish, but to save those articles that are being unfairly deemed not notable, or which are being excluded from wikipedia because it is difficult to provide references. Often these are articles on topics which are simply very obscure.

Wikipedia's Articles for Deletion

Wikipedia's Articles for Deletion page is where articles go to have their fate decided. Check it out regularly and see if there are articles worth trying to save.

Try to stop the article's deletion by helping to improve it on Wikipedia, and putting a case for it on the deletion discussion.

Articles marked for possible deletion are automatically copied to Deletopedia, so if the page is deleted you will be able to find the last few versions archived here for posterity.

Current State

This site is currently a work in progress. I am trying to automate as much of the monitoring of pages as possible. Currently, any article marked for deletion will be automatically archived here. Please let me know if you spot anything wrong with the archival process (for example links that don't work).

Soon, I hope to archive article's histories as well.
